Losing a pet is one of the hardest life experiences we go through, and in the middle of all that grief, having to suddenly make decisions about what happens next can feel completely overwhelming. Making these choices with a clear mind today, not only makes the hard day a little bit easier, it also gives you the space to explore alternatives that you might not be offered by default.

In the past 6 months, we have looked after families who were suddenly thrust into this position due to an accident or a sudden, rapid illness; as well as families who planned ahead by speaking to us or visiting us weeks or months ahead.  Even though the grief is equally heavy, because all the logistical side of things is already sorted, their only focus on the day is just being present and take care of the emotions.

When you have a bit of time to look into your options with a less heavy heart, you get to choose what really feels right for your family. A lot of people are now choosing the gentle water way, the aquamation.

Unlike traditional flame cremation, it uses a gentle flow of water. It’s a very quiet, soothing process that essentially just speeds up what happens in nature. When there is no fire, it’s a zero emission process that is much kinder to the environment too. Since it’s gentler on your little friends, we are able to return more of their ashes to reunite with you.

Taking control of your pet’s aftercare is simpler than you might think. It boils down to knowing what you want and letting your vet clinic know ahead of time. Remember, it is always your absolute choice who takes care of your pet, no matter which crematorium the clinic usually defaults to.

To make this as easy as possible, we’ve put together physical Care Cards. You can hand it to your vet when you are ready especially while they are still their perfectly healthy self and things aren’t too heavy in the chest, so your wishes are crystal clear. It’s like a will, on their behalf.
